昔闻东陵瓜，近在青门外。

连畛距阡陌，子母相钩带。

五色曜朝日，嘉宾四面会。

膏火自煎熬，多财为患害。

Recluse  Dong Ling planted melons, I hear,

Right up to the black gate of the City near here.

Big and small ones with each other clinging,

Vines creeped all the fields and over the paths crossing.

The morn gorgeous sunshine glittering on them,

Noble guests came from far and near to meet him.  

Oil burns, self consuming and pain inflicting,

Too much wealth woes and disasters breeding .

Being a plebeian will for life be safe and sound,
