Good Afternoon,
It has been a pleasure working as a Librarian at the Lefrak City Library. I have absolutely enjoyed working with the community and staff to provide services to our customers. My time here has contributed greatly to my professional growth. It is because of this that I regret to inform you that I have decided to accept a job opportunity to further enhance my professional career with the Miami-Dade Public Library System and will relocate to Miami, FL at the end of this month. My last day at Queens Library will be on Saturday, May 19th. I hope that my employment at the Lefrak City branch of QBPL has been one that will leave a lasting impression on the library staff and all those that we serve. Please inform me of any steps that I need to take to end my employment properly. Good Afternoon Friends Council Member Francisco Moya and Assembly Member Ari Espinal are hosting a Back to School Supplies Giveaway on August 25th, 11 – 3 p.m. Queens Library will be providing supplies at this event and would like to have the Friends members volunteer. In addition, this would be a perfect opportunity for the Friends to meet the elected officials and to do some friendraising for new members. Kindly advise if you are able to attend. Best, Camille
July 27, 2018 Re: Rokeya Jafar Customer Service Representative Candidate Fellow Queens Library CLS/HR, I have known Rokeya Jafar since 2016. We met when I came on board at Lefrak as Customer Service Supervisor. Though Rokeya's official title is a Page, she is always eager to help the Frontend with customer questions regarding check-out procedures as well as how to navigate the library to find requested or wanted books. Rokeya has been one of the easiest persons I've had to supervise since starting here. She is a quick study, always willing to step in when short staffed and the first to volunteer her artistry skills when the branch takes on epic projects such as our Global Fashion Show where she produced all of the marketing and displays for the event. Not only does she set the scenery in the children's room with her monthly displays she often engages our younger and older customers in exciting arts projects as well. Her Henna face painting session was the talk of the neighborhood! Rokeya is able to work independently. She is flexible, in that she comes in early, works late, and on weekends if needed. Her ability to remain unflustered during frenzied periods, specifically on a daily basis when school lets out, proves her steadiness to work well under pressure. Not only has Rokeya been a dedicated, patient and loyal employee over the many years she's been here, she is also a team player. We here at Lefrak confidently know that we will always be greeted with a warm smile, kind words of encouragement, and help as needed. Rokeya has done an excellent job of maintaining great working relationship with her colleagues and her supervisors. In closing, Rokeya would be an invaluable asset to any branch and I whole-heartedly recommend her for this position. Lerrak City Library Customer Service Supervisor (718) 592-7677 xxxx@queenslibrary.org Sent: Monday, August 13, 2018 1:53 PM Hi all, It's with sadness and happiness I write this message. I’ll be leaving my position as LK Customer Service Supervisor and my last day is Sunday, August 26. While I’m excited about this new opportunity with the NYC Department of Correction Legal Counsel, there’s also a big part of me that’s sad to be saying goodbye to amazing co-workers and friends just like you. I can’t tell you how much I’ve enjoyed our time working together, and how much I value the friendship you’ve shown me over the past 2 years. Though this might be the end of my time working here, it’s definitely not the end of my service. I am 100% invested in the mission of QPLB and you will be seeing me again. I will remain an active member of the Friends of Lefrak City and look forward to continue working on upcoming programs. My number is (201) 310-6580—so don’t hesitate to reach out at any time. Thank you for letting me be a part of this family and I’ll definitely keep in touch! Much Love,
The floating collection pilot program will begin on Saturday, December 26, 2015. This program will allow the following type of materials returned by customers at your location to become available for circulation by your agency. Therefore, upon check in, the system will make the item “Available” and change the “Shelving Location” to your agency. You will then need to shelve the items at your location with the rest of your collection for checkout. · 21 Day Non-Requestable · Adult Compact Disc, Spoken · Adult Hot Picks- 21 Day · Adult Hot Picks- 7 Day · Adult Multiset · Bestseller · Videodisc (DVD) · Videodisc (DVD)- 7 Day · Videodisc (DVD) Multiset · Videodisc (DVD) Multiset – 7 Day ** In essence, we will float all Adult bestsellers for books, Hot Picks titles, all adult DVDs & audio books, including multi-media items in international languages** Library locations: All QL libraries are included in the pilot project with the exception of: · Adult Learning Centers · Langston Hughes Black Heritage Collection · Mail-A-Book Program · Book Buses
Community Library Work Flow: Starting Saturday, December 26, staff will shelve into their collections all adult bestselling books, DVDs, audio books that are checked in at their locations regardless of their owning locations. The sorting system will be programmed accordingly to reflect the changes. Material Rebalancing: The goal of floating is to let collections naturally float to where the demand is for that material and to save time and resources spent on shipping. We understand that a number of factors, such as library location, availability of 24/7 check-in machine, and customer makeups, may well affect the outcome of the program. It is expected that overflow of materials will occur at some locations, and under-stock situations at others. We are working with CollectionHQ to set up a 6-month rebalancing reporting feature to help ease the situation. In the meantime, we encourage staff to work with others in their region to help keep the collections at manageable levels. Weeding Responsibility: Weeding responsibility stays with shelving location staff, especially for materials that can be weeded out because of poor physical conditions. Last copies and unique collections need special attention and necessitate communications between owning location staff and shelving location staff. Circulation Reports: ITD will provide the following collection activity reports to help with the evaluation of the pilot program: · Circulation report according to shelving location · Additional reports to be determined as the project progresses If you have any additional questions about the floating collection pilot program, please contact your CLS Director. For technical issues, please call the Help Desk at x734
Queens Library is a welcoming environment for all library customers. Recently, we have made a special effort to provide enhanced early literacy programs and to attract families. I would like to remind all staff about the library's practice concerning parents feeding children in the library. · In compliance with State law, mothers are welcome to nurse babies in any public place, without restriction, as long as they are not creating a safety hazard. · If another library customer does not wish to be nearby, remind him or her that the nursing mother is within the library’s guidelines and the law. If the customer continues to object, treat it as you would any other customer complaint. Refer it to the library manager or assistant manager as is necessary. The CLS Directors are always available resources. I know how hard you work to balance the needs of all our library users. Thank you for assistance in making sure the rights of nursing mothers are protected. Bridget Quinn-Carey, Interim President and CEO As has been previously announced, the Board of Trustees is engaged in a search for a new President and CEO. As Interim President and CEO of the Queens Library, it was my job to continue the great work of this distinguished institution during one of the Library's most difficult times. I believe that I have not only succeeded in steadying the institution, but with the support of an extraordinary team, have significantly advanced the Library's goals.
I am proud that I have helped to create a solid new foundation based on transparency and advocacy that will benefit millions of Library users for decades to come. While one can never say that their work for a constantly evolving and living institution like the Queens Library is ever complete, I am nevertheless satisfied with what we have achieved together and I have decided not to pursue the position of President and CEO. I will return to my role of Chief Operating Officer after the new CEO is appointed.
I wish the Board success in its executive search and will continue to help support the Library and all the great work it does for our communities.
Bridget Quinn-Carey, Interim President and CEO
