Health Tips

N. Shore Hospital 04/2012

Prevent heart Disease:---

  1. Maintain a healthy weight: Changing your diet can help decrease your risk of heart disease, or prevent existing disease from getting worse. Choose lean meats, avoid foods that are high in fat and salt, control portion size, drink plenty of water and eat two or three servings of fruits and vegetables every day.
  2. Don not smoke!
  3. Become active.
  4. Have regular check up, once a year at least.

Call 911 if you experience chest pain, chest tightness, sudden shortness of breath, dizziness or loss of consciousness.

For Good Prostate Health:---

The American cancer Society says altering your diet may help reduce the risk of prostate cancer and other diseases. Most importantly, men should eat a diet that is low in fats. Avoid processed foods and red meat and concentrate on eating more than five servings of fruits and vegetables each day along with whole grains.

Studies have shown that lycopene-rich foods (tomatoes, pink grapefruit, watermelon, and many berries) help in preventing damage to DNA and may lower the risk of may diseases including prostate cancer. Other items such as pumpkin seeds and green tea hold promise but more research is needed. Exercising regularly and not smoking may also lower the risk of prostate problems.
