In his "Drum Major Instinct" sermon in Atlanta on February 4, 1968, Dr. King famously stated, "If you want to be important—wonderful. If you want to be recognized—wonderful. If you want to be great—wonderful. But recognize that he who is greatest among you shall be your servant … That's a new definition of greatness."

Happy Thanksgiving from Dennis Walcott, CEO & President of Queens Library

Dear Colleagues,

I’d like to wish you and your families a happy and safe Thanksgiving and express my gratitude to each of you for the many ways you serve Queens Library and our customers.

At a time when our commitment to all members of our community matters more than ever, your work is especially meaningful. I’ve seen first-hand the generosity and thoughtfulness with which you open your hearts and your minds to our customers and give them the means to better their lives.

So tomorrow, when I consider all of the people in my life I’m thankful for, you’ll all be at the top of my list. Enjoy the holiday.

Gratefully,
Dennis

The majority of prescription drug abusers report getting their drugs from friends and family. Cleaning out old/unused medications from your home reduces accidents, misuse, and abuse of these medications including opioid painkillers. Eight out of ten new heroin users began by abusing prescription painkillers and moved to heroin when unable to obtain or afford prescription painkillers.
