Agriculture Secretary Vilsack to Announce New USDA Effort to Fight Child Hunger at National Anti-Hunger Policy Conference
USDA Begins Month-Long Focus on Efforts to Address Hunger, Nutrition and Opportunity for Children and Families
WASHINGTON, Feb. 27, 2015 – On MONDAY, March 2, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will deliver a speech at the National Anti-Hunger Policy Conference, sponsored by the Food Research and Action Center (FRAC) and Feeding America. There, he will announce USDA efforts to combat child poverty in rural areas across the country. The speech begins at 9:00 am EST.
For those unable to attend in person, USDA Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services Under Secretary Kevin Concannon will host a media call to discuss this new initiative, and USDA efforts to ensure that struggling families have access to safe, nutritious food. The call will begin at 4:00 p.m. EST.
USDA’s 15 nutrition assistance programs help struggling families gain access to healthy, nutritious food. Throughout the month of March, which is National Nutrition Month, USDA will highlight the impact of these programs on the 1 in 4 Americans that rely on these vital programs for the nutrition they need.
